A delegation led by Kingdom of Tonga’s Lord Privy Seal and Secretary for Diplomatic Services, H.E. Viliami Malolo, recently met with Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner, Prasanna Gamage, at the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Wellington. The visit aimed to learn from Sri Lanka’s experience in establishing its diplomatic mission in New Zealand, as the Kingdom of Tonga prepares to reopen its embassy in Wellington.
High Commissioner Gamage shared insights on Mission establishment, covering logistics, key roles of local line agencies, and assistance received from New Zealand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) alongside the broader diplomatic community. H.E. Malolo expressed gratitude for the guidance and requested ongoing cooperation.
Facilitated by Ms. Kerrianne Joe, Senior Policy Adviser at MFAT, the Tongan delegation also included Ms. Toakase Palelei, Deputy Secretary of Corporate Services, and Ms. Oto’ Ota Aho, Assistant Secretary of Diplomatic Services.
